Fin vs. Simple: what Fin's acquisition means for voice and chat AI buyers

Salesforce's $3.6B Fin acquisition explained: how Fin and Simple differ on voice and chat AI, pricing, and what it means if you're a Fin customer.

Simple AI vs Fin

On June 15, 2026, Salesforce announced an agreement to acquire Fin, the customer-service platform formerly known as Intercom, for about $3.6 billion. Salesforce expects the deal to close in the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2027 and plans to bring Fin into Agentforce.

For current Fin customers and teams evaluating new AI agents, the acquisition makes roadmap, pricing, and platform fit part of the product decision.

The short answer

Choose Fin if your main goal is reducing support tickets across chat, email, SMS, social channels, and voice, especially if your organization already runs on Salesforce.

Choose Simple if phone conversations carry support complexity or revenue. Simple is voice-first, handles sales and service calls at contact-center scale, and includes hands-on deployment and continued tuning.

Where Fin is strong

Fin grew from Intercom’s website messenger into a broad customer-service platform. It operates across digital channels and voice, reports roughly 76% support resolution, and offers a self-serve path without setup fees. Teams with a large digital-support footprint can automate a meaningful share of repetitive work.

The Salesforce acquisition may also benefit companies already committed to Agentforce and the Salesforce CRM stack, where tighter product integration could reduce handoffs between systems.

Where Simple differs

Simple was built around high-volume calls. Its agents handle inbound support and sales, outbound follow-up, qualification, and upsell, then hand the call to a person when needed. Published customer results include more than 70% inbound containment and a 30% lift in upsell performance.

Simple also supports chat, SMS, and email, but the product is optimized for the interruptions, latency, complex catalogs, and backend actions that make phone automation difficult.

Deployment and ownership

Fin remains self-serve today. Its longer-term roadmap will increasingly reflect Agentforce priorities, and some product capacity will go toward Salesforce integration. Buyers outside the Salesforce ecosystem should weigh the value of Fin’s channel breadth against greater dependence on that stack.

Simple can deploy in as little as 10 days with white-glove support. The Simple team helps design flows, connect systems, test calls, review failures, and ship improvements after launch.

How pricing behaves

Fin currently charges per resolution. That aligns spend with closed support work, but volume and the contract definition of a resolution determine the final bill. The Salesforce acquisition may eventually change packaging or renewal terms, so buyers should model more than the first contract year.

Simple charges a platform fee plus per-minute usage. Telephony reports already expose call minutes, making the variable portion easier to forecast before deployment.

Put both products on real calls

Test the channels and work that matter most. For Fin, include digital-support volume and the Salesforce handoffs you expect to use. For Simple, include a noisy phone call, authentication, a backend action, and a sales or upsell moment.

Compare completed work, containment, revenue per call, and the effort required to correct failures. That is more useful than comparing channel lists alone.

Questions buyers ask

Is Simple an alternative to Fin?

Yes. Simple is the stronger fit when voice, sales, and contact-center operations matter more than broad digital-support coverage.

What changes when Fin joins Salesforce?

Fin will become part of Agentforce. The acquisition can deepen Salesforce integration, while also tying Fin’s roadmap and commercial model more closely to the Salesforce platform.

How should we compare them?

Use your real channel mix and include at least one end-to-end workflow that updates a backend system. Measure what the customer completes, not only whether the bot responds.
